Summer Socks Success

posted 22 January 2006, Sunday

Just in time for the middle of winter, I've completed a pair of summer socks. Even here in San Diego these cotton socks leave my tootsies a bit chilly. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased with the way they've turned out and the fact that they're finally done. To recap, they are toe-up socks with no-sew, figure-8 toes and short-row heels.

If you read my last entry, you know that I've had quite a dilemma over how to bind off. What solution did I come up with? I concluded that the only thing to do when you can't find a bind-off that you like is not to bind off at all. I folded the top edge over and grafted the live stitches to the inside.

An ingenious solution to the bind-off - and very flexible, right? Brilliant.

Sitting in a New England snowstorm (well, I'm inside, but it is snowing out) right now, everyone keeps trying to tell me that I should knit nothing but cotton for my upcoming move to San Diego. I try to tell them that I was cold the entire month I was there (September) because it gets chilly every night. Maybe, just maybe, if I show them your blog entry, they'll believe me.
