Another Hat for Nick

posted 1 February 2007, Thursday

Since my friend Nick will be starting another round of chemotherapy soon, I figured I'd start another hat for him. Looking for something quick and simple, I remembered Halfdome from last summer's extremities issue of knitty. What better hat to knit for a bald guy than one designed by a bald guy? I already had a few skeins of the Cashmerino Aran it calls for on hand. I originally purchased that yarn specifically because I thought it would make wonderfully soft hats for Nick. Of course, I'm utterly incapable of following a pattern exactly as written. Instead of a rolled brim in grey, I'm beginning with 2x2 ribbing in the same color as the rest of the hat. I just like the look of ribbing better, and I think it will help keep the hat from creeping up. Instead of knitting back and forth, I'm knitting in the round. Double-point needles and I are friends. Plus, without a seam, it will feel nicer against his sensitive scalp.
