Back when I was listening to the audio book of Anna Karenina, I signed up for an Oprah.com membership in order to gain access to members-only resources for that previous book club selection. Shortly thereafter, I received an email informing me that the latest selection was Night by Elie Wiesel. Seeing that my library (via NetLibrary) had the audio book available for download, I thought I'd give it a listen.
Based on Elie Wiesel's true-life experience of being a teenage Jewish boy caught up in horrors of the Holocaust, it is a really tough listen. In spite of the fact that it is only about 4 hours long, it's taking me quite some time to finish because I can only take it in small doses. While I was already familiar with the scenes depicted from reading and watching other accounts, Elie Wiesel includes small personal details which pull me in and make me see these events so clearly that it is painful. However, this book is essential for gaining a deeper insight into what the Holocaust victims really endured.
The compelling story is enhanced by the excellent narration of George Guidall.
