We went to see The Chronicles of Narnia last night. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they brought one of my favorite childhood books to life. The world of Narnia and its creatures look wonderful largely thanks to the efforts of weta workshop, the wizards behind the Lord of the Rings films as well. I was particular pleased with how precisely the movie's plot sticks to the book's storyline. If anything, the movie is just slightly more fantastical than the book. However, one thing that really made the movie for me was the amazing performance by Georgie Henley, the young actress who plays Lucy Pevensie. The way her face lights up with wide-eyed wonder upon first discovering Narnia is the absolute embodiment of that moment which especially endeared me to the book.
I also think the movie was very close to the book, which is unusual in the
"books adapted for movies" world. We really enjoyed it, and it got both my
boys interested in reading the books (which is worth the price of a
ticket).
