Interweave Knits Is in the House!

posted 13 March 2005, Sunday

I finally received the Spring 2005 issue of Interweave Knits.  I haven't checked my mailbox in a while so you know it probably arrived the day after I gave up on it.  I was getting rather nervous because the last time I looked for it at the bookstore they were out.  I wanted to visit with a copy there to tide me over until I received my own, but I was out of luck.  I thought, "Great!  I get a subscription to save me from buying it off the newstand, and now I won't even be able to get it that way either."  No worries though because it's here, it's here!

What do I wish to knit from it?  I like the pretty rib stitch pattern and the raglan shape of the Wear-Everywhere Pullover by Lana Hames.  The high neck would probably drive me crazy though so I would have to think about adjusting that.  The lace patterned shrug, A Good Bias by Lisa Daehlin, is very pretty, yet practical for my ficklely cool San Diego weather.  I love Norah Gaughan's Vintage Pink Cardigan (not surprising because she is one of my favorite designers) with its gorgeous 1950's style, but I don't know if I'd actually wear it much.  Speaking of Norah Gaughan, her Ballet Wrap which is pictured on the cover certainly has an interesting construction, and I will definitely be reading through the pattern just to see how it's done.  However, I don't think I will make it because I would just be fiddling with the ends that wrap around and tie at the front of your waist too much.  Maybe if they were half again as wide or if there is a way to just leave them off.  Ann Budd's Grand Plan Capelets are nice because the main pattern is a template like the patterns in her "handy" books.  But again I ask myself if I would actually wear it -- maybe a button-front one that I could toss off without totalling my hair.  Finally we come to Nancy Marchant's Bi-Color Brioche -- very interesting stitch pattern and shaping.  I don't know if it will end up on my to-do list, but I will be playing with that stitch pattern.

After sifting through the bills and the junk mail, I found a couple other goodies in addition to Knits.  I received the new Patternworks catalog and the lastest issue of the magazine which keeps me informed about one of my other passions -- Cruise Travel.  It has been way too long since I've been on a cruise, but for now I will just have to dream with some help from the pictures and stories in this magazine.
