I plugged away at the Boundless Blue Blanket this weekend while I watched SoapNet marathons.
Today I spent some time perusing knitting books at Barnes & Noble. It is a smaller B&N and doesn't have the greatest selection, but I did take a closer look at a couple books that I've been eyeing for awhile. The first was Bags : A Knitter's Dozen which seems to have the greatest variety of the current crop of bag/purse books. It has way more than a dozen in all types and sizes -- more than just felted sacks -- lots of unique and different details. Like other books in the Knitter's Dozen series, this is a collection of patterns that have appeared in Knitter's Magazine. The other was Nicky Epstein's Knitting on the Edge
, a collection of borders -- ribs, lace, fringe, you name it. Great for spicing up an existing pattern or for adding to your own creations. I like the way the layout shows the samples as if they are pasted into a scrapbook. They look so pretty it makes me want to just knit up swatches of the borders by themselves.
I just started reading Shadowmarch by Tad Williams. John finished reading the copy we checked out from the library so it's my turn now. I really enjoyed Tad William's Otherland series
and The War of the Flowers
so I have high expectation for this book as well. Recently I learned that George R. R. Martin, author of The Song of Ice and Fire series
, is a big fan of Tad Williams himself. He claims that he probably wouldn't have taken on the fantasy genre if it weren't for the inspiration provided by reading Tad's Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series
. It's fun to hear an author I'm a fan of being a fan too -- especially of another author I admire.
