Following everyone's progress in the Peaceful Palms Knit-Along over at nonaKnits has inspired me to finally take on the challenge of knitting gloves -- something I've wanted to do for quite awhile. Intending for my boyfriend to wear them to work, I plan on leaving the thumb and first finger open on the right-hand glove (similar to the Cigar pattern at knitty) while completing all fingers on the left-hand glove. Today after taking a trip to the library and the yarn shop, I'm nearly set to cast on. From the library, I picked up a couple books which I knew had basic glove patterns, The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns and Homespun Handknit
. At the yarn shop, we decided on Jaeger Matchmaker Merino 4 Ply in black. I've also pulled out my copy of the Winter 2003 issue of Interweave Knits which features glove knitting. Now I've got to go attack John with a tape measure and peruse all the patterns I've gathered.
