As I continue my perusal of FCEK, this section finally yields up some designs I might actually like to knit. The theme here is cables and the color blue, two of my favorite things.
- A crew-neck cardigan designed by Kathy Zimmerman in Bullfrogs and Butterflies from Lorna's Laces. It is covered with delicate little cables which start in the ribbing at the hem and cuffs. This is a definite possibility for my to-do list.
- A hooded tabard in Lamb's Pride Bulky from Brown Sheep Company. Please tell me tabards are not the next phase in the poncho/cape trend. This odd little garment has humongous stockinette on stockinette cables and pompoms dangling from crochet chains (presumably to tie the front and back together at each side).
- A deep v-neck cardigan in Kersti from Koigu. Another contender for my to-do list, this one is covered in mock cable stitch and has a small ruffle around the hem and cuffs.
- A collared cardigan in Merino et Soie from Naturally (distributed by Fiber Trends). Eight-stitch cables on reverse stockinette, a garter stitch collar, and stockinette sleeves with a slight flare adorn this sweater which could be a runner-up for my to-do list.
- A scarf in Graffiti from Colinette Yarns (distributed by Unique Kolours). It has two cables which are pretty much lost between the loop-fringe running up both long edges. You can get pretty much the same look by simply draping a large hank of the yarn around your neck.
- A headband in Lavish by Classic Elite Yarns. This classic ear warmer would be great for learning cables or for treating yourself to a small project in a luxurious yarn.
At the end of this section are nicely illustrated instructions on how the various types of cables in the proceeding patterns are done.
