I recently picked up a copy of the latest FC Easy Knitting, and this is my take on the patterns therein. The first section has holiday party wear done in glittery or lush-looking yarns.
- A pullover in Berroco's Bling Bling with full dolmen sleeves (eek!) which the model is wearing off her shoulders. I almost wonder if she said, "Hey, the neck on this is so wide I bet I could push both shoulders through." She tested this theory and said, "Yup, sure can, but just barely." Unfortunately, the photographer snapped the picture during the middle of this ill-advised experiment. Of course, I can't imagine how it would look if it wasn't pulled off-the-shoulder, but I'm quite sure I'll never know.
- A wrap vest with crochet accents -- three flowers on one side of the opening and a ruffle along the other. It actually wouldn't be bad -- except it's done in Lion Brand Suede which I think is too bulky for a garment like this.
- A shrug/bolero which ties in front with a ribbon, designed by Mari Lyn Patrick in Crystal Palace's Merino Frappe. It's knit from cuff to cuff in 2 by 2 ribbing and then "sewn to form a natural rolled collar and lower edge." What? Rolled lower edge? Sounds comfy and flattering, doesn't it? Especially in a yarn which also appears a bit bulky.
- A tank dress designed by Mari Lynn Patrick as well. The description tells us of an A-line skirt with a ruffle around the hem, but we'll never know for sure because the model is sitting down with the lower edge out-of-frame. There is suppose to be a similar sort of ruffled treatment around the neckline, but this is impossible to see for the dark-colored yarn, black Lion Brand Glitterspun. Since my body and a knitted dress would not be a good combo, I won't be investigating any further to discover what this really looks like.
Stay tuned to see if I actually find something I'd like to knit from this issue!
