I've just started reading Eragon and so far I'm enjoying it very much. I've been intrigued by the beautiful blue dragon on the cover of this book for some time now. Then recently I noted the release of the second book, Eldest
. Finally I learned that some of the buzz surrounding these books centers on the fact that the author, Christopher Paolini, was only 15 when he began writing the first one. I decided to see for myself what all the hubbub was about. I have to say that I'm impressed. I honestly don't believe I would have suspected that the author was so young if I hadn't already known. I'm a little stunned by some of the negative reviews on Amazon. Basically, these reviewers feel that it is a poor copy of Tolkien, Star Wars, and various other works of fantasy fiction. At this point, I'm finding his style of writing and the world he's created to be fresher and more fascinating than that of some adult writers in this genre. If the rest of the book delivers on the promise of the first few chapters, then I'll definitely be adding Mr. Paolini to the list of authors whom I keep an eye on. More info on the trilogy can be found at the official website, Alagaësia, and at the unofficial fan website, Shur'tugal.
