Earlier this month, my friend Nick was admiring the handknit Christmas stockings that I'd made for John and myself, and he mentioned that he didn't have a stocking, handmade or otherwise. A couple days before Christmas I decided I'd make him one. I thought I'd keep it simple, do an afterthought heel, and surely I'd be able to get it done on time. Well, I didn't quite make it.
I actually laid it under the tree with the needles still in it, one of his presents tucked in the top, and a strand of yarn trailing back to where I'd hidden the skein behind the other gifts. He got a pretty big kick out of receiving it this way and looks forward to being able to hang up the completed stocking next Christmas.
